4.6.2.3
Test firing requirements.
The test firing shall be
conducted with the following:
(a) A test mount with a minimum rigidity of 250,000
pounds per inch.
(b) One group of belted links to be cold conditioned
at minus 65 degrees F for at least two hours immediately prior to test
firing; a second group of belted links from, the same lot, to be hot
conditioned at plus 165 degrees F for at least two hours immediately
prior to test firing, and a third group of belted links, from the same
lot, to be conditioned at plus 70 degrees F.
(c) Use of MARK 100 series rounds of ammunition.
(d) Use of the MARK 12 MOD O gun system equipped with
the MARK 7 MOD 2 feed mechanism or the MARK 12 MOD 3 gun system equipped
with the MARK 9 MODS 4 and 5 feed mechanisms.
(e) Rate of fire to be between 925 to 1075 rounds per
minute .
(f) Ammunition and links to be lightly oiled with
lubricating oil conforming with VV-L-800.
(g) Use of link ejection chutes comparable with those
in current Navy aircraft having MARK 12 gun installations.
(h) Fifty round bursts shall have two momentary inter-
ruptions.
(i) The flexible feed chute shall be unsupported for
the 12 inches nearest the feed mechanism. The supported part of the
flexible feed chute shall be on the same level as the entrance to the
feed mechanism. There shall be enough slack in the feed chute so that
it may be raised at the middle of the unsupported length to a height of
4 inches above the lowest point (determined under slight load).
