loop under test. This extra link shall be the only means of holding the
connecting loop of the test link on the stud. The studs shall then be
forced apart laterally to produce the pull specified in 3.7.3, the load
being applied at approximately the center line of the connecting loop,
The links shall meet the requirements of 3.7.3.
Deformation of bridge. Links shall be tested for

bridge deformation by inserting a plug, having the same dimensions
as the base end of the basic cartridge case (See Figure 2), in the rear
end of the round retainer with the forward wall of the plug flush with
the rear of the stripping bridge. The plug and round retainer (open
side up) shall be clamped in a restraining device and a load imposed
at the center of the groove near the forward edge. of the round retainer
pulling away from the center line of the link so that the stripping
bridge will be bent with the least load. When testing the MARK 2
MOD 1 link, separate tests shall be performed on each round retainer
in the unassembled condition. Links shall meet the requirements
of 3.7.4.
Spring tension of connecting loop. Test for tension
4.6.1.3.5
for the MARK 2 MOD 2 links shall be at the joint made by the two
hooks of the connecting loop gripping the round retainer. The
connecting loop shall be supported, open side down, in a fixture ,
with the axis of both members in a horizontal plane and the round
retainer unsupported by the fixture. A load shall be applied
vertically at the edge of the opening in the T-slot of the connecting
loop nearest the joint being tested. The above procedure shall be
used when testing the MARK 2 MOD 1 links, except with the axis of the
round retainers in a horizontal plane so that the fixture shall not
support the round retainer gripped by the two hooks of the connecting
loop. The links shall meet the require-rents of 3,7.5.

Functioning tests.
Preproduction sample., From each preproduction lot,
4.6.2.1
12 MARK 2 MOD 1 links and 150 MARK 2 MOD 2 links shall be delivered to
a Naval test activity (as specified in the contract or order) for
functioning tests.
Production sample. From each production lot, 12 MARK 2
4.6.2.2
MOD 1 links and 150 MARK 2 MOD 2 links shall be delivered to a Naval
test activity (as specified in the contract or order) for functioning
tests. These links shall be in addition to the quantity specified in
the contract or order, and shall be furnished at no cost to the
Government.
