Compliance with documents. Unless otherwise specified,

Burrs. All burrs should be removed from the links.

Cutting, stamping, and forming operations shall be performed in such
a manner that all burrs which may be formed will be directed toward
the outside of the links. No burrs shall be permitted in areas
delineated by the applicable drawings to be free from burrs (See
Section 2).
Protective coating, Subsequent to appropriate hardness

treatment, links shall receive the protective coating specified by the
applicable drawings. The MARK 2 MOD 1 links shall be locally painted,
prior to rust preventive coating, with one coat of zinc chromate primer
Specification MIL-P-8585 (See Section 2).
Residual Coating. The residual coating of rust pre-

ventative compound shall not exceed 75 milligrams per round retainer
or 25 milligrams per connecting loop.
Environmental
Requirements.

Salt Spray Resistance. Each link component tested in
3.6.1
accordance with 4.6.1.2 shall be visually examined for evidence of rust.
Each round retainer shall show no more than six easily discernible rust
spots, each measuring not more than 1/8 inch in diameter or equivalent
area. Each connecting loop shall show not more than three easily dis-
cernible rust spots, each measuring not more than 1/8 inch in diameter
or equivalent area. Rust staining, rust drainage, and edge rust shall
not be considered when measuring the area of rust spots.
Temperature extremes. The links shall comply with
3.6.2
the requirements of 3.8 at any temperature between minus 65 degrees
Fahrenheit (F) and plus 165 degrees F.
