MIL-L-16727D (AS)
4.6. 1.3
Link samples shall be-selected in accordance with
MIL-STD-105, Inspection level S-4, for each test specified in 4.6.1.3.1,
4.6.1.3.2, 4.6.1.3.3, 4.6.1.3.4 and 4.6.1.3.50 Lot disposition shall
be as specified in 4.6.3.1. Each link shall be used for only one test,
except links used in Group IV Test under 4.4.1 may be used for subsequent
tests. Tested links shall not be delivered to the Government as units of
production.
Stowage. MARK 2 MOD 2 links shall be tested for
4.6.1.3.1
stowage requirements of 3.7.1 by use of a minimum belt of twenty rounds
of 20mm MARK 103 MOD O dummy ammunition placed on a level surface with
the closed sides of the links against the level surface, and the belt
being fanned to its maximum projectile-end-in free-state position.
Linked rounds at one end of the belt shall be raised over adjacent
linked rounds, and pulled by hand across and in contact with the dummy
rounds and links in the rest of the belt. Repeat the above procedure
with the open sides of the links facing the level surface.
4.6.1.3.2
Extraction resistance. Links shall be tested for
required extraction resistance specified in 3.7.2 by use of a hardened
and ground steel bar or plug. The bar shall have the same dimensions
as the basic cartridge case (See Figure 2), and shall support a pendant
rod at right angles to the axis of the bar at the mid point of the
stripping section of the round retainer. The rod shall be provided
with a freely sliding drop block weighing two pounds and a stop at the
lower end of the rod so positioned as to stop the block after falling
freely through the required distance. Total weight of the bar, pendant
rod, and stop, exclusive of the drop block, shall be 1.50 ± .02 pounds.
The bar shall be inserted in the round retainer of the link so that the
rod hangs below the center of width of the round retainer. The link
shall be supported in a horizontal position by means of the stripping
bridge of the round retainer being tested and also by means of the T-slot
of the connecting loop. The drop block shall be permitted to fall
freely through the prescribed distance and strike the stop. Full
extraction shall be when the gage bar drops free from the round retainer.
Partial extraction shall be when either end of the round retainer snaps
beyond its mating diameter on the gage bar and does not return to its
original position, When testing the MARK 2 MOD 1 link, each round
retainer shall be subjected to the above procedure.
4,6. 1.3.3
Pulling strength.
Links shall be tested for required
pulling strength specified in 3.7.3 by assembling the link on two
parellel studs having the same dimensions as the basic cartridge case
(See Figure 2). When testing the MARK 2 MOD 2 links, one extra
MARK 2 MOD 2 link shall be assembled on the stud holding the connecting
